1984 in the UK
The following pictures are two views of actual posters in the UK. I know a lot of Americans would feel less secure after seeing these posters in their town. I wonder if the UK residents have an opposite reaction. Do they feel comforted by constantly being watched and being reminded of it?
"The exact number of CCTV cameras in the UK is not known but a 2002 working paper by Michael McCahill and Clive Norris of UrbanEye [1], based on a small sample in Putney High Street, "guesstimated" the number of surveillance cameras in private premises in London is around 400,000 and the total number of cameras in the UK is around 4,000,000. The UK has one camera for every 14 people." Wikipedia
On the other hand, if you trust the government and are law-abiding then maybe CCTVs and such aren't a bad idea.

It is illegal in Britain even to defend one's family against home invaders. Drivers can be pulled over for not having their arms bent at the proper angle. First guns, and now kitchen knives have been outlawed.
